The Library Orientation Programme for the new intake of 2025/2026 of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was successfully held on March 26 and 27, 2026, at the University of Ruhuna Library. The programme aimed to familiarize new students with the library’s resources, services, and facilities, enabling them to make effective use of the library throughout their academic journey.
The orientation was conducted by the following academic staff members of the library, who served as resource persons:

Mrs. Sakunthala Senevirathna – Senior Assistant Librarian
Mr. J. A. Ajith – Senior Assistant Librarian
The programme included a guided library tour, allowing students to explore the library’s collections, study areas, and digital resources. In addition, practical sessions were conducted to provide hands-on experience in using the library’s catalogue, databases, and other research tools.
The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of nearly 650 students, reflecting their enthusiasm and eagerness to engage with the library’s facilities and services. This orientation programme was a valuable initiative that supported students in achieving academic success by equipping them with essential library skills.
