All Students of the University are required to register their names in the Library by applying on the prescribed form obtained from the Library. They are required to produce their duly endorsed Student Identity Card and Record Book at the time of registration. At the beginning of each academic year, undergraduates and post graduate students spending more than one academic year are required to register in the Library, by revaluation their Library Facility.

Most Books can be borrowed for a standard loan period. The standard loan period for a lending book is two weeks. Reference books are issued on week days between 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. and must be returned by 10.00 a.m. of the following day.

Having found the items you wish to borrow, bring them to the Library counter. You have to produce your student Identity Card with the items you are going to borrow. Please remember that you are responsible for all the items you have borrowed from the Library.

The Library is using Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC) to organize books in the library except in the Engineering Library. Please refer the Library Handbook for more information.

You can use either a simple search or an advanced search options to find books from the OPAC. If you know the Author, Title, Subject, ISBN, ISSN, Series name or Call number then you can use the basic search option and can limit your search by location of the Library. By using advanced search option you can refine your results using item type, language, publication date range, location of the library etc.

If you want to take books out, take them to the counter in the library. You have to produce your student identity card with the items you want to borrow. The staff will issue it to you.

Return all library items to the Library counter.

You are charged for overdue books For overdue lending items the fine is. Rs. 1.00 per day For overdue reference item the fine is Rs.3.00 per day.

If an issued book is lost or damaged, the matter should be reported to the Library immediately. Borrower has to replace it with a new copy of the same edition/ subsequent edition within the due date. If it is not available in the market, you will be billed for the replacement cost of the book plus a processing fee of 25% from the value of the book plus binding charges.

You can pay your library fines at the Shroff counter of the Faculty/University. The counter is opened till 3.00p.m.

Student’s library cards expire either one year from date of issue or at the end of their academic year.

Log in to www.lib.ruh.ac.lk your account of the library using your ID and the password. Select the books you want to renew, Click the icons “Renew All” or “Renew selected items”

You should be a library account holder with the University identity card and you can use the laptop within the library from 8.00am to 4.00pm on weekdays. Please refer the Laptop Lending Policy of the library for more information.

Inter Library Loan is a facility provided by the library collaborating with other university libraries, Institutes and Networks to share the resources within each other. Readers can request books, research articles through this service from collaborating libraries.

The Library Account will automatically block in either of the following occasions. If your fine amount exceeded Rs. 100.00. If you have an overdue material. (If you have not returned the book on due date) Once you paid the fine or returned the overdue materials, the account activates automatically.

The renewal notice appears on your account 30 days prior to expiry date of your account. (Usually the end of your each academic year) You need to visit the Library to renew your library account for the upcoming year. You have to produce your ID and the Record Book at the time.
