The Mission
To support the university’s commitment to excel in higher education by providing a high-quality information service to students, staff and the community at large, developing resources without prejudice and limitation to languages, contents and formats ensuring a continuous free flow of information, collaborating with other universities, institutional and governmental libraries in Sri Lanka for resource sharing.
Introduction
Being a prominent and advanced academic library in Sri Lanka, the Library System of University of Ruhuna plays a huge role in providing access to information for the university community as well as researchers of the country. The Main Library of University of Ruhuna was initiated as the inception of the university at Maddewatta and shifted to the present premises in 1986 while establishing the campus as a full-fledged university at Wellamadama.
At present the Library System of University of Ruhuna comprises Six libraries; Main Library, Agricultural Library, Allied Health Science Library, Engineering Library, Medical Library and Technological Library. Main Library is catering information for five faculties respectively Fisheries & Marine Sciences & Technology, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management & Finance, Science and Faculty of Graduate Studies. Other Libraries of the system serve the respective faculties located in different places away from the main campus.
