Senior Assistant Librarians and Assistant Librarians of the University of Ruhuna provide reference services to the users with direction to library materials, assistance on library collections, and searching for multiple kinds of information from various sources.
This service allows the students to obtain any book or a copy of the required scholarly materials that are only available elsewhere other than the university library system. Patrons can make their request online through the library website, library OPAC or make their request to the Senior Assistant Librarian/Reader Services in person.
An Institutional Repository (IR) is an online digital repository system powered by the library, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, that collects, stores, indexes, and disseminates scholarly information over the Internet. IR of the University of Ruhuna (IRUoR) only provides materials for which the University of Ruhuna can claim the copyright. Library users can access this service through the URL:

This service is provided from the library for students who do not have laptops. Depending on the availability, students can make a reservation in advance or immediately. The laptop lending service include three types of borrowings: 128 Student Handbook 2021/2022, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Ruhuna.
Under this type, a laptop is issued for three hours at a time, to be utilized within the library. The borrower should return the laptop within this period. However, the library can renew the loan if no one is waiting to borrow a laptop. The borrower is not permitted to transfer the borrowing to any other person and must not take the laptop out of the library. All the laptops must be returned to the Counter/ Service Desk 30 minutes before closing the library.
Under this type, the library lends a laptop for overnight use. A patrons can borrow the laptop after 3.30 p.m. on normal weekdays and must return the laptop on or before 8.30 a.m. of the next day. Optionally, if the borrowing day is a Friday, the patron can return the laptop on or before 8.30 a.m. on next Monday or the next working day if there is/are public holiday/s. (No renewals are allowed)
A patron can borrow a laptop for one week time with the strong recommendation from the Dean/Head of the Department/Academic Advisor relevant to the student. A patron who wishes to borrow a laptop under this category should make a prior request from the Librarian/ Deputy Librarian/ Senior Assistant Librarian/ Assistant Librarian in charge of the service through the Dean/ Head of the Department/ Academic Advisor relevant. (No renewals are allowed).
The Library of the University of Ruhuna is currently conducting Information literacy course modules for the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Medicine. The main purpose of these modules is to develop students’ information literacy and library research skills. The academic staff of the library facilitates the students with comprehensively taught courses and hands-on sessions throughout the course module. In addition to this course unit, the library conducts continuous student orientation, training and support for newly recruited students through workshops and seminars.
The University of Ruhuna Library has subscribed to a number of online databases with the auspicious of UGC through the Consortium of Academic Libraries of Sri Lanka (CONSAL). The students can refer to four kinds of E-databases through the library: Emerald Insight, JSTOR, Wiley Online Library, and Oxford University Press. Patrons can access these online databases through the library website (https://www.lib.ruh.ac.lk/?page_id=1278). These online databases are IP based and should be accessed through the university network. If the students want to use off campus facility, they need to obtain a relevant IP number from the university library administration.
